About Andrew
Welcome to Laughing Lobster Photography—where vivid colour, real emotion, and the landscapes of Nova Scotia come together through the lens of Andrew Barkhouse.
Andrew’s journey into photography began with a simple spark: a childhood curiosity and a film camera in hand during family road trips. That spark turned into a lifelong pursuit of capturing moments that matter—whether it’s the soft light on a coastal village, the joy of a wedding day, or the wild stillness of a Maritime morning.
Based in Antigonish, Nova Scotia, Andrew specializes in both fine art landscape photography and portrait work, with a relaxed, easygoing style that helps people feel at ease in front of the camera. His images—ranging from windswept beaches and working wharves to family sessions and intimate boudoir—are known for their vibrant use of colour and strong sense of place.
Whether he’s documenting a summer sunrise over Cribbon’s Point or capturing connection during a family portrait, Andrew brings a storytelling approach rooted in light, authenticity, and the beauty of the East Coast.
Photographic prints and artwork can be shipped across Canada, the United States, and internationally—so no matter where you are, you can bring a piece of Nova Scotia into your space.
A graduate of St. Francis Xavier University (Class of 1999) and the New York Institute of Photography, Andrew continues to hone his craft through mentorship and creative community. He’s a proud member of the Two Mann University Metanoia Class of 2024, the Offbeat Photography Collective, and an active participant in Photowalk Atlantic—reflecting his ongoing commitment to growth and collaboration.
When he’s not photographing Nova Scotia’s landscapes or the people who call it home, Andrew can be found cheering on the Toronto Blue Jays and Montreal Canadiens or spending time with his big, close-knit family—including his 10 nephews and 5 nieces—who remind him every day why preserving connection through imagery truly matters.
If you’re seeking photography that’s real, relaxed, and full of life, Andrew would be honoured to help tell your story—through every wave, smile, and spark of colour.
